NHOF: Hear from Corinne who turned down 88K!

Friday, August 20th, 2010

What happened to me after winning my 1p? First of all I sent the nice shiny penny that the crew sorted out for me out to my friend Gwenda in Canada to have it made into a pendant. I love the design - the penny nestles in a nut and hangs from a spanner – really me!

While I was out shopping quite a few people asked if I was ‘The Penny Lady’ and wanted to see my pendant. Surprising how few people said I should have taken the money. I think people admired the fact I went for my dream, and was content with my second choice of a penny.

Last June I went to my Singer Owners club annual bash.  Everyone had seen the programme and understood why I had gambled so much.  The first evening Peter came to me and said “I know you didn’t win the Bentley, but perhaps this will help.”  I opened the parcel; there was a painting of my dream Bentley. “How lovely, I shall hang it on my bedroom wall!” I thought to myself.

I had my new knee done and went to Cornwall for a week to recuperate. Drawing up to a beach café, what should be in the car park but a straight eight Bentley! Had a good look around it – it was the exact model I wanted. My friend took a couple of photos of it. I looked around and saw a couple finishing their lunch and went across to speak to them. I told him my tale about the Bentley and Deal or No Deal and that I ended up with a penny, instead of enough money to buy the Bentley. “You must have a photo” he said. I said “we had already taken a photo of the car” – “No, no, a photo of you in the car.” He insisted. So thanks to Deal or No Deal I have actually sat in my dream car. I’m getting nearer to my dream all the time.

I had so much fun making the programme and it still brings me fun and new experiences which money couldn’t buy.

I’m pleased to be the ‘The Penny Lady’

NHOF: Catch up with ‘Deal’s biggest fan’ - David!

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

David’s entertaining show was shown today so we caught up with him to see what he has done since his action packed £6,500 win on Deal:

“The Deal or No Deal experience was particularly significant for me, due to helping to run an unofficial online discussion forum about the show. Having followed Deal or No Deal since it began in 2005, and having helped run the forum for years, it was a very surreal and enjoyable experience to actually become a contestant. I was lucky enough to be on the show for nearly 30 shows, and during that time, I saw many varied wins; including a third offer deal, a 1p win, and amazingly, the show’s second £250,000 win. It was also fascinating watching the behind-the-scenes elements of the show, and being involved with the crew members who make the show what it is.

In my own show, I dealt at the fifth offer of £6,500, and had 50p in my box, so I beat the Banker. The offer I dealt at was pretty much the peak of the game (except the second offer of £10,000), so I didn’t have regrets about how I played. I spoke to the Banker about my offer and tried to get it up more, but he wasn’t having any of it. However, as I’m a big fan of the show, he allowed me to keep my box, which is normally something he only does with the £250,000 winners. I have the box on my shelf in my bedroom.

I haven’t spent a lot of my winnings yet, I put most of it in a savings account to earn interest (which is surely something the Banker would approve of!) However, I used some of the money to fund a recent holiday for two weeks to Florida with another forum member, Steve.

Overall, the experience of Deal or No Deal has enhanced my life, I had some unique experiences while filming the show and many of my other contestants went on to become good friends of mine.”

NHOF: Find out what Laura did after her show

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Laura’s enjoyable show was shown today so we caught up with her to see what she has done since her impressive £35,000 win on Deal:

It took about a week to sink in how much money I had won, I didn’t really believe it at first. After I had eventually got used to the idea, I was so excited to put it to good use, and was looking forward to treating myself and my family. I was, and still am, so incredibly grateful for not only the money I won through Deal, but more grateful for the experience itself.  I have made some excellent friends through the show, and a few of us are planning on a mini reunion later in the year. The money itself gave me the opportunity to do many things I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to do.

With such a fab amount of money, I wanted to make the most of it and really enjoy myself, so the first thing I arranged was a 2 week, 5* holiday to the Dominican Republic, which was lovely and relaxing. I bought myself a mini cooper convertible car which I have really enjoyed in the summer!  I bought my Gran Ruth a mobility scooter from the money, which has really helped her to enjoy herself and get out of the house more.

I am now in the process of buying a new two bedroom home in the village I have always lived, and the winnings are going towards the deposit and decorating.

That’s the main things I have spent my money on and as anybody could guess, it has made such a significant difference to my life. It has put me in a fantastic place for a 21 year old, owning my own house, lovely car, and overall, a really happy life with memories of a brilliant experience. Once again I would like to thank everyone at Deal for giving me the chance to experience being on TV, winning an incredible amount of money that has totally changed my life and even when all my money has been spent, I will always have special memories of being on Deal or No Deal.

NHOF: Hear from Andrew after his £50,000 win!

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Andrew’s remarkable show was shown today so we caught up with him to see what he has done since his mega-money £50,000 win on Deal:

The Deal experience was something I will never forget.  I have made so many lifetime fiends from being on the show and have enjoyed something that money simply cannot buy. I am in still in touch with many of the contestants today.

It was certainly worth almost two years of application forms, telephone calls and auditions.  The feeling when I received the telephone call offering my place on the show was fantastic. Everyone connected with the show makes you feel so very welcome and they work so very hard to make sure you are happy and well looked after.

Gemma and I never told anyone not even our families about my game or about my show or indeed how much we had won.  Both our friends couldn’t believe how courageous we had been especially as it was all because of our pet rabbit ‘Bobby’!

The fantastic amount of money we won on the show has allowed us to think about moving house sooner than we had wished.  We are currently in the process of looking for a new home while selling ours.

NHOF: Catch up with Calum the beatboxing star!

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Calum’s Summer Special show was shown today so we caught up with him to see what he has done since his beat boxing £40,000 win on Deal:

Wow what a journey it has been!!! Since Deal or No Deal my life has changed completely! Not only was it a great experience to take part in the show, but it’s also helped me achieve so much after the show. I’ve had great satisfaction in treating my family, I gave £10,000 to my parents, which helped them pay off some bills and treat themselves to a Thai hut gazebo. I also gave my brother and sister £2,000 each.

With the help of Deal or No Deal, I’ve managed to make my dream come true by building my very own bungalow; I have become a local celebrity around the town thanks to my beat boxing!  Everyone always recognises me and my mum and they’re always telling me how much they enjoyed my show and how sorry they felt for my mum! It was such an amazing experience to meet Noel, he’s a top bloke, and all the team at Deal or No Deal are so fantastic. I miss it loads!

NHOF: Find out what Kerry did with her win!

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Kerry’s epic show was shown today so we caught up with her to see what she has done since her dramatic £15,000 win on Deal:

Well, the money has well and truly all gone now but meant so much to us and we spent it very wisely….Since moving house, having a baby and getting married all in the same year, we had run up some debts and Deal enabled us to clear those which has made life so much less stressful. After that, I gave my daughter Jessica a brand new bedroom and we really went for it. She moved out of her little nursery and into her big pink princess bedroom and she absolutely adores it. It was a dream to do that.

One of the things I really wanted to do was take my mum to Graceland….in the end, she actually said she really wanted to go to Disney in Florida to see her granddaughter meet Mickey Mouse. Sadly though, a couple of days before we left, my mum’s health, which hasn’t been good for quite a while now, meant she didn’t feel up to the travelling so she was unable to go on the trip. She insisted we still take Jessica so that she didn’t miss out, Jessica loved it and had a magical time meeting all the characters, I just wish mum could have been there with us as we missed her the whole time we were there.

The whole Deal or No Deal experience meant the world to me. It was a dream to get on the show as I am such a big fan and so are my family and friends. Being there felt so surreal but the reality is that not only did I meet the wonderful crew who took such great care of us and the lovely Mr Noel Edmonds but I have also made some life time friends who I love dearly and still see now. The money may be all gone but I thank you from the bottom of my heart for a magical experience.
